Kalavryta Massacre - December 13, 1943: On this day in history, December 13, 1943, important events took place today in Kalavryta, Greece, surrounding the Kalavryta Massacre. Greek Resistance fighters, in Kalavryta, executed 78 German soldiers that they held captive. When news of this event reached General Karl von le Suire, he ordered severe reprisals in the form of killing the entire male population of Kalavryta. After locking up the women and children in a school the Wehrmacht troops killed the males. 500 died in the massacre and only 13 males survived.
