Establishment of the First British Colony in the Caribbean - January 28, 1624: On this day in history, January 28, 1624, important events took place today in S. Kitts, Caribbean, in respect of the Establishment of the First British Colony in the Caribbean. As a Captain in the Guards of James I, Thomas Warner accepted a posting to the Oyapac Colony in Guyana. In 1623 he searched the Caribbean for a more favourable place to settle. He decided on St. Kitts and returned to England for more men to help establish the colony. Warner returned to St. Kitts and on January 28, 1624, established Saint Christopher, the first English colony in the Caribbean.
